MIG WELDING BS4872 PT1/PT2
This is a Non Procedural Weld Test.
It’s a hands on weld test to prove the competence of the operators.
The test involves submission of a various welds in various positions.
The test criteria is:
Visual (external)
Nick brake test (mechanical)
Macro examination (internal)
All persons should be tested to a minimum using a minimum 1.0mm thickness. Please consult your manufacturer’s approval standards to establish if your operators are required to be tested on the 2.0mm material.
Advice and training offered during weld test should insure competent panel beaters the best opportunity to gain a pass at this level.
SPOT WELDING BS1140
The test involves the explanation of the spot welding process. Instructions on how your machine works and the responsibilities of the operator.
The test criteria is:
Heat distribution
Nugget size
Indent
On different thicknesses of steel. The test does not only raise the awareness of the panel beater but also proves the capability of the machine used.
MIG BRAZING
Synergic Mig Pulse welding

Practical test under the format of BS4872
HSS/UHSS & BORON AWARENESS
R.P.M offers a specialised on site UHSS/HSS and Boron awareness course. This course is designed to raise awareness and understanding of UHSS/HSS and Boron steels, it also covers the correct repair methods.
The course is split into two sections comprising of the awareness presentation followed by practical testing (Mig Brazing and Spot Welding).
The course covers:
Types of steel in a vehicle body
Steel types and groups
Explanation of steels
Recognition of steel types
Repair methods
There is a questionnaire and a practical mig braze test comply with PAS125.
BESPOKE WELDING
Bespoke welding certification to BS4872/BSEN 287
We offering bespoke weld testing to multiple thicknesses to the standard of BS4872/BSEN287 for the purpose of the below
Quote from Ron Cocker VBRA’s Whole Vehicle Type Approval Manager.
“In order to comply with the requirements for Conformity of Production it is recommended but not mandatory that welding activities are completed by competent and qualified operatives. For use of any licence that a member may take from the VBRA for RUPD (rear under run protective device), LPD (lateral protective device) or similar Technical Requirements that have obtained by generic testing approval this certification is mandatory as agreed with VCA (vehicle certification agency).”
